Have you smelled something awful in your area recently? If so, you're not the only one.

Reports have come in from dozens of residents who say that their neighbourhood smells disgusting at the moment, and they are completely unsure why.

One neighbour Ana Palade posted on social media to ask if anyone else is consistently smelling this awful odour.

On a post on Facebook she said "Hi! What is this smell? Cholmeley Road, Liverpool Road and School Terrace are smelling disgusting!"

Dozens of people then flooded to the comment section to offer up their ideas on what the stench could be down to.

Many expressed how they too were completely perplexed.

One person wrote "I don't know. I noticed it too, terrible smell," and another person said "It was horrible! I smelt it in freshwater around 4! We couldn’t work it out!"

A further person commented "Shelley could smell it on Henley Road, I could smell it on Star Road and White Knights campus!"

Others chimed in exclaiming that they too had experienced the awful stench, but had no clue what it may be.

One user said "Felt it in the morning at school terrace and after a while was gone. Afternoon was up to Filey, Norton Rd. And evening felt close to Aldi."

Another person wrote "I smelt it in Woodley! Not just a junction thing!"

A further person said "It smells horrible all along the road."

After a fair amount of debating and coming up with ridiculous ideas of what on earth could be causing the stench, including some jokes about passing gas, it seems that the culprit has been found.

As Spring makes its way into Summer, many farmers have been mucking their fields with manure in preparation to grow produce.

Some clever residents offered this up as an answer, which seems completely fair given the sewage-like quality of the smell.

One resident suggested that it was either horse of cow manure that the farmers were spreading in the fields.

They said "Muck spreading in the fields over Playhatch. Happens once a year," and another person responded "Ahh well that's fine it'll be gone soon."

Another person commented "Yes I heard there was muck spreading in playhatch. Amazing how far the aroma travels!"

A further person said "Omg thought it was just me that could smell it! Could smell what appeared to be cow manure wafting through the window!"
