New research reveals places that experienced the highest rate of burglaries from January 2023 to February 2024 in Berkshire.  

Topping the list of areas most likely to be burgled is Reading, with a substantial total of 993 burglaries and a burglary rate of 57.00 per 10,000 residents. 

Slough emerges as another hotspot, with 715 burglaries and a burglary rate of 45.11 per 10,000 residents, highlighting a significant risk of burglary in this area.

Windsor and Maidenhead experience 587 burglaries, with a burglary rate of 38.24 per 10,000 residents, while West Berkshire follows closely with 559 burglaries and a burglary rate of 34.63 per 10,000 residents.

Alan Blake from SECOM plc commented on the data and said “To put these figures in perspective, the average burglary rate for all LSOA areas covered by Thames Valley police between January 2023 to February 2024 was 30.39.” 

"To bolster home security, individuals should double-check locks on doors and windows before leaving and utilise timers for indoor lights. It's also wise to inform trusted neighbours of absences for added vigilance," advised Blake.

Chiltern emerges as another area less likely to be burgled, recording 133 burglaries and a burglary rate of 13.81 per 10,000 residents, indicating a moderate risk compared to higher-risk regions.

Similarly, South Bucks reports 101 burglaries and a burglary rate of 14.41 per 10,000 residents, highlighting a relatively lower risk of burglary in this area.

Vale of White Horse experiences 340 burglaries, resulting in a burglary rate of 24.48 per 10,000 residents, suggesting a moderate risk compared to both higher and lower-risk areas.

Buckinghamshire, despite its larger population, reports 1,439 burglaries and a burglary rate of 26.02 per 10,000 residents, indicating a relatively lower risk compared to regions with higher rates.

Bracknell Forest records 332 burglaries and a burglary rate of 26.65 per 10,000 residents, indicating a moderate risk similar to Buckinghamshire.

Cherwell follows closely with 448 burglaries and a burglary rate of 27.83 per 10,000 residents, while Wokingham reports 528 burglaries and a burglary rate of 29.75 per 10,000 residents, suggesting a moderate risk compared to other areas.
